It was a great year, and for many reasons...not because it's my birth year, I'm a wee bit older than that...however it was the birth of something else...CANADA as a seperate and soverign nation!!!
Yes- offically we waved goodbye to the QUEEN...which technically we can type as queen now but out of RESPECT we still type as Queen.
Us Canadians...we do a lot of silly things out of respect, umm...like I don't know....allow the Queen Mum to continue to call herself the Queen of Canada. We aren't even one of her commenwealth realms anymore...we publically stated that we don't need her help anymore. . . Now out of respect...we still keep her oh-so-attractive-when-she-was-20-mug on our currency because we don't like to be bullies....and we even updated her 'look' on some of our newer coins so she's old and wrinkly. But she is still not our Queen.
If you want to get technical about it (or if you are so inclined you can check it out on Wikipedia) she can be referred to as Head of State for Canada, de facto Head of State, du jure of Canada or Queen of Canada- all of these titles by the way show that she is an HONOURARY of Canada. We allow her to have a Governer General as a type of liason to her, but guess what...if miss governer general doesn't sign off on something, our fancy-smancy government can still DO IT :)

Notice how our money doesn't say GOD SAVE THE QUEEN? - I even posted this in Royal Purple in her honour....ahh the things we do ..... LOL :)
